The Target Toy Sale
With trolleys at the ready, grasping circled catalogues and wishlists, they lined up with their eyes on the prize. The prize, a bargain grabbed admist the toy sale frenzy, a succesful dash and grab in which Chirstmas dreams and Birthday wishes come true.
To be honest I was in denial that I was about to become a part of the once a year tradition. But there I was. “My Pigeon Pair” had their mouths full of fries as I went through the list of the priorities.
Cabbage Patch for Little Miss, Ninjago Lego for Master O. Simple.
The doors opened and the rush forward resembled the recycled vision used by news crews during the boxing day sales. People surged. Trolleys pushed and collided. I am sure there may have even been squeals. Somehow I got caught up in the excitement. I raced too. I had to get a bargain.
Mothers were in aisles grabbing items and stacking trolleys. Yes trolleyS. Multiple. With trolleys over brimming and the juggling of two trolleys at a time, they then headed to the shining light at the end of the toy sale tunnel, the lay by counter.
You see cash was not neccesary at these sales. You could shop as if you had just won the lotto and I am sure some people did. and me??
Well I ended up with a trolley full! Prams, doll paraphenalia, remote control cars, lego, boardgames. Presents for unknown friends and birthday parties we haven’t been invited to yet. Presents for “My Pigeon Pair” from us, from aunts and uncles, cousins, grandparents and maybe even from the mailman. I got caught up in the excitement over securing a toy at a reduced price, or perhaps I had a case of trolley envy as I admired the organisation of those with trolleys piled high. I may have even thrown a few things in because I saw other people cuing for them.
Now I have enough items on layby to last me the next two christmases and a wallet still full of cash. I was drawn in by the prices but stayed for the excitement and thrill. a first time Target Toy Sale shopper, I will definitely be back for more.
