Chalky, Jumpy, Numbers.
Numbers, Numbers, Everywhere! Master O loves numbers! We have been looking for some new number games to play so we created some of our own! This was one game played a number of different ways and all you need is some chalk and pebbles or rocks!
I worte some numbers onto our pavers. Master O had to start on the start paver. I would call out a number and he would have to jump on to it! He is a physical learner. Like many boys he cant sit still and needs to learn with a hands on approach! We then changed it to me rolling a dice or two dice for larger numbers I would show him how I count the number on the dice and then he would have to jump to the number!
Then we introduced the pebbles! He would say a number, jump to it and then place the right number of pebbles on the number. Counting them to make sure he was correct!
Then we introduced more numbers! This time he had to jump to a matching number. Jump to 4, find a matching 4. Choose a new number. Find its match. All the way to the end of pavers. Lastly we wrote the numbers. As he jumped on each number he had to trace it with his finger and then copy it with his own piece of chalk.
So what did he learn.
- One to One Correspondence
- Recognising Numbers by Numeral and Name
- Matching Numbers with the same attributes
- Writing Numbers
- Fine Motor Skills (writing, grasping pebbles, tracing)
- Gross Motor Skills (jumping forwards, backwards and sideways)
- Thinking and Planning skills (multiple numbers to choose form choosing the one that is closest.
- Positioning ( the number is close to you or the number is far away. What number is next to that number?)
